This review is for players outside Ethiopia: the Ethiopian Lottery Service suspended the licences of all operators.
A registration bonus is a marketing cost an operator has decided is worth paying to get your phone number and your attention. That was true when this industry was licensed and it is still true. What changed is everything standing behind it.
Since 15 December 2025 no operator in Ethiopia holds a licence. That is not a technicality about paperwork. It is the reason a bonus dispute now has nowhere to go.
A bonus, once the banner comes off
You are being paid a small amount to open an account, hand over your details and start a relationship the operator expects to profit from. There is nothing sinister in that. Every business runs a version of it.
Whether the money is real comes down to one mechanism, is the wagering requirement, and it is the part the banner never leads with. Fifty birr free at 30x means you must stake 1,500 birr before any of it becomes withdrawable. That is not a gift, it is a schedule, and the house edge applies at every step along it.

One question matters more than the terms
Forget the rollover for a moment. Ask instead: if I clear this bonus and they refuse to pay, what do I do?
A year ago there was an answer. You could complain to the National Lottery Administration, and the operator held a licence it wanted to keep. That leverage is what made a complaint worth filing. Today the licence is already gone, so the thing that gave the complaint its force went with it.
Ethiopia’s regulator can confirm that nobody is licensed. It cannot compel an unlicensed company to pay you, and it has indicated that consumer losses in this market are not recoverable. Reports go to 9695 and they create a record. They do not create a remedy.
Maximum withdrawal is where these are decided
If you read one clause in a bonus term, read this one. Many no-deposit offers cap what you can withdraw at a fraction of what the bonus can win.
It works like this. You get 100 ETB free with a 30x requirement and a 500 ETB maximum withdrawal. You stake 3,000 ETB across a run of bets, you happen to run well and end up at 2,400 ETB, and you can withdraw 500. Nothing there is hidden and nothing is against the rules. It is simply not what the headline implied, and the headline is doing that work on purpose.
Game weighting is the other clause worth finding. Slots typically count 100 percent toward the requirement while sports bets count 10 percent or are excluded entirely. On a market where every lobby now leads with crash games and slots, that weighting is not accidental either.
Five kinds of offer, and which are worth anything
Names change between operators but there are only really five things on offer, and they are not equally valuable.
- No-deposit bonus. The most advertised and the least valuable. Small, heavily conditioned, and almost always capped on withdrawal. Its purpose is registration, not generosity.
- Deposit match. Your money and theirs, with the requirement usually calculated on the combined amount. Read whether the rollover applies to the bonus alone or to bonus plus deposit, because the difference is often threefold.
- Free bet. Genuinely useful if the stake is returned with winnings, and roughly half as useful if it is not. Most terms do not return it. Ask before you assume.
- Cashback. The most honest of the five, because it is calculated on real losses and usually carries lighter conditions. It is also the one operators advertise least.
- Free spins. Tied to specific slots at a fixed stake value, with winnings converted to bonus credit rather than cash. The headline count matters far less than the stake per spin.
How to claim one without getting caught out
If you decide an offer is worth taking, the sequence protects you more than the choice does.
- Screenshot the terms before you opt in. Terms get edited. Your screenshot does not.
- Check whether opting in blocks a withdrawal. On many platforms an active bonus locks your entire balance, including your own deposit, until the requirement is met. That is the single most common unpleasant surprise in bonus play.
- Find the expiry. Most requirements run 7 to 30 days. An unrealistic window is a way of guaranteeing the bonus is never cleared.
- Note which games count and at what weighting before you place the first bet, not after.
- Withdraw the moment it clears. Do not leave cleared bonus winnings sitting on a platform in this market. Lalibet is currently showing a notice suspending withdrawals with no end date.
Why bonus hunting is riskier here than anywhere else right now
Regulators have warned publicly that operators are misrepresenting their legal status, and that dealing with unlicensed ones can expose your money and personal information to serious risk. Bonus offers are the delivery mechanism for exactly that.
- A code arriving unsolicited in a Telegram group is an advert, whoever sent it and however much it looks like inside knowledge. Codes cost nothing to invent.
- A bonus on a brand that recently reappeared is a recruitment cost paid by whoever bought the name. Nine Ethiopian betting domains are currently listed for sale by brokers, and two have already been repointed at unrelated advertisers.
- Registration hands over a verified phone number. On a platform whose ownership you cannot establish, that has value to somebody entirely apart from gambling. Recovery scams follow this market closely.
- Any offer claiming regulatory backing is claiming something that exists for nobody. Treat it as the single cheapest signal on the page.
What the operators still running are actually offering
I checked the six working brands on 25 August 2026 and did not find a registration bonus I could verify on any of them. QwickBirr previously advertised a deposit-50-ETB-for-10-free-spins offer; I could not confirm it was live, so it has been removed from its review here rather than repeated.
What I did find were larger promotional claims that sit oddly against the visible product. QwickBirr was advertising a 225,000 ETB promotion and a 6,000,000 ETB challenge while all four of its jackpot meters showed 0 ETB. Telebet was showing a populated jackpot above 13,500,000 ETB. Hulusport keeps a Promos tab in its main menu while its fixture board reads THE BOARD WENT OFF-AIR.

- A withdrawals ticker naming recent payouts, mostly small and in the 200 to 3,000 ETB range
- They put up a notice instead of leaving a dead page, and they wrote it in Amharic as well as English
- The domain and the certificate are still being paid for, so somebody is still there
- The main domain still resolves and still holds a valid certificate, so the brand has not been abandoned entirely
One last thing about timing
Bonus terms are the part of a betting site most likely to be edited quietly, and in a market with no regulator watching, nothing prevents it.
Screenshot the terms on the day you opt in, with the date visible. If the requirement, the cap or the expiry later reads differently, your screenshot is the only version of events that exists outside the operator’s own database. It costs nothing and it is the single most useful habit in bonus play.

Best value in this market today in this market today is not a bonus at all. It is finding out, before you deposit, whether the operator still exists.
I checked fifty-nine Ethiopian betting brands by hand and six were open and working. The rest are closed, blocked, parked, sold or gone, and any one of them could still have a bonus banner running on a landing page somewhere. A promotion is not evidence that a company is trading. It is evidence that a page exists.
